Responsibilities in the project
The PARITÄTISCHE Schleswig-Holstein (PSH) participates in Work Package 4 and 6 within the activities 4.1, 4.2, 6.1 and 6.2. In addition PSH is responsible for activity 4.6 “Joint Evaluation of Pilot Initiatives” and cooperates with Green Network from Denmark in the Pilot Initiative 4.3 Mentors.
About us
The PARITÄTISCHE Schleswig-Holstein is the umbrella organisation for more than 500 non-profit organisations, associations and support groups in the State Schleswig-Holstein (North of Germany) who offer social assistance, voluntary work and professional services. PSH and her member organisations are committed to the idea of social justice and the human rights for equal opportunities, self-determination and a life in dignity.
Why we participate in Best Agers
A good cohesion across all age-groups and social classes is essential for the future of our society. For several cross-generational approaches it is very important to hold people over 55 years in the centre of our society, conserve their knowledge and experiences and help them to find new fields of action for their personal commitment. Inside the Best Agers project we are looking for new ways to do so.
What is happening right know
Our pilot initiative aims to establish a network of “Mentors” for community work (we call them “Citizen Coaches” or “Bürgercoaches” in German). One focus is how to win Best Agers as volunteers to support other involved citizens in the realization of their community orientated activities. Another focus is to develop an appropriate long-lasting support structure to increase the individual motivation and willingness of experienced people over 55 to become initiators for new creative projects in their special fields of interest. One approach tested in the project is the concept of “Participant-driven empowerment” with no fixed qualification program and support on demand: The “Citizen Coaches” can use the professional services and regional support organization of PSH, but they decide what they need!
